Ms. DiSilvio

Welcome to seventh grade, my name is Ms. Di Silvio.  I am certain that you are all wondering what the year ahead will be like.  Well, this newsletter will give students and parents some basic information that I hope proves both useful and reassuring.  I am looking forward to an exciting year together!

In Social Studies, we will begin the year by reviewing what we have learned in world geography.  The main focus of our class, however, will be ancient civilizations.  Students will learn what civilizations are and what life was like before they arose.  Included in our study will be parts of Africa, Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, Greece and Rome.  In addition, we will spend some time talking about current events.  In social studies, we will utilize an "interactive notebook” or IN.  I will be sending a separate letter home to explain what goes into a successful IN. 

We will be using a variety of resources in our study of ancient civilizations.  However, our primary textbook will be World Explorer: Ancient Civilizations which is published by Prentice Hall.
